Ok Here is a concept to try and wrap your brain around. Negative emotions are not bad and serve a purpose. If we see something that makes us angry and then we acknowledge it we are inspired to do something to change the bad circumstances that caused us anger. If we ignore it and buffer then the world never becomes a better place , I have heard the process referred to as buffering by a favorite podcaster of mine by the name of Brook Castillo. We want to feel good all the time therefore we do things that give us a temporary dopamine hit in the brain to ignore it and then we end up needing more dopamine hits because of the negative consequences of our actions so it starts a vicious cycle. Here is a list (not all inclusive) of some things that give us a dopamine hit : Shopping, refined foods such as flour and sugar, sex, facebook, our phones, entertainment, cigarettes, etc….I am sure there is a smorgasbord of other things that can be added to this list.
Our life is not supposed to be flowers rainbows and unicorns all the time. We need to accept this part of life in order to have Joy in the middle of the suffering instead of resisting the suffering which makes us harder to be around. We need to detox from dopamine and live life the way it was supposed to be lived.
